That is the official definition but really it is so much more. Emotional Intelligence is a much deeper way of understanding our emotions and where they may have come from. To know and understand what triggers us to rerun an old feeling that may not actually apply to the current situation. It is being able to acknowledge that you are experiencing something and that it is making you feel an emotion that is tied to something much deeper. Most of the time we are not even cognizant of this connection. In other words, our current reactions are tied to our subconscious stories of our perceived childhood traumas and old traumatic life experiences. Some of these reactions and triggers that we have are even handed down to us inadvertently by our families and society.
Because we are not taught Emotional Intelligence as children, as adults we tend to get stuck in patterns that do not serve our highest good and keep us frozen in negative emotion and this just sucks the life out of us.
Emotional Intelligence teaches us how to navigate emotion in a masterful way. When we learn Emotional Intelligence we are set free from our reactive states and are inspired to drop the stories that got us there in the first place.
Any situation that life brings can be handled with grace and ease and we can live a life full of connection and love.
